E tail of three tourneys

The 2018 Malta Scrabble season enters its final quarter with three autumnal competitions.

Eleven-time and reigning National Champion Theresa Brousson (seen in photo) will be vying to add her fourth and fifth league titles this year by competing in both Autumn League 1 and Autumn League 2, two parallel leagues that span the whole length of this latter period of the year.

For Brousson’s two strongest and most emulous rivals, Charles Micallef and David Delicata, Autumn League 1 is the only chance to end the year with a league title in the bag and dent Brousson’s supremacy just before the 2019 season gets underway. In their efforts to pull this off, they could well be favoured by the knockout format of the final phase of the league.

Brousson will have a less easy ride in Autumn League 2 than she did in Summer League 2. Mario Saliba, Nicky Vella Laurenti and Moira Fenech have all it takes to make the champion’s ride to victory a bumpy one.

At the same time as the Autumn Leagues reach their climax in December, the Yearend 2-Day Tournament, held in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, will add further competitive frenzy and excitement to this tail end of the Scrabble year.
