Enter the estival Scrabble festival

If you thought summer was a period of rest from Competitive Scrabble, think again! Starting with the Mnarja 1-Day Tournament on 29 June, the Malta Scrabble Club Calendar is teeming with events during the hot season.

Less than a week after 11-time National Champion Theresa Brousson (seen left in photo) attempts to win her second day tournament in a row, two parallel Summer Leagues running weekly till the end of summer will set into motion. Staged in the relaxed breezy ambience offered by the King George V Recreational Gardens in Floriana, participants will try to outplay each other in two challenging round-robin formats.

While thus engaged, Malta's untiring word players will regroup barely a mile away at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in July for a 2-Day Tournament embedded in the Mediterranean Gaming Week, a new event on the country's cultural calendar in which scores of games and gamesters will celebrate the vitality and variety of man's innate ludic instinct.

In August, when the Summer Leagues start heating up, the Santa Marija 1-Day Tournament, held by the pool of the University Residence in Lija, will provide a happy mixture of competitive, culinary and social fun for players, friends and relatives alike.

With the Summer Leagues coming to a boil a month later, two 1-Day Tournaments in September will bring the summer Scrabble season to a climaxing finale.
