Ealta National Scrabble Championship - 36th edition

After being pushed into hibernation by covid-19, Malta's oldest and most prestigious national Scrabble competition, the Malta National Scrabble Championship, better known as the National League, is back.

With all still to play for, particularly in the lower division, it will be interesting to see if and how the resumption of play after such a long hiatus will turn the tables.

Played out over a period of almost four months, winning the championship requires a rare combination of skill and stamina. In such a taxing competition, luck can be said to play a minimal part.

No wonder then that over the 35 past editions of the championship, only nine players have ever managed to claim the title of National Champion (see the Roll of Honours).

Will reigning champion Theresa Brousson (photo) succeed in her quest for a record thirteenth championship title? Will Dominic Borg pull off a defense of the title he bingoed his way to last year in Division II? Stay tuned from now till just before Xmas to know.
