Eayo, Micallef reap the rewards

Charles Micallef and Josephine Mayo are the two victors of two twin leagues that ran in parallel in the course of Spring.

In Spring League 1, Micallef (right of photo) overcame stiff opposition in the semi-final from eventual third placed Moira Fenech, who lost one of five games despite registering a high 454 game score. The former National Champion then went on to win comfortably over runner-up Nicky Vella Laurenti in the final.

In Spring League 2, Mayo beat Frans Farrugia in the final, with Albert Zammit placing third. Both Mayo and Farrugia were also competing in Spring 1, where the former placed a creditable fourth overall whilst the latter came out on top of runner-up Christine Strawbrige in Section B. Farrugia's dual sterling performance paid off with the highest net gain of rating points.

Reno Zammit maintained the good form shown in the last One-Day Tournament to claim the winner's spot, ahead of Alfred Xuereb and Marlene Calleja, in Section C of Spring League 1.

Further down the pecking order, Marvic Cutajar reaped the rewards of her efforts as a neophyte at the game, gaining over sixty rating points thanks to a gritty performance in Spring League 1.
