Eummer Scrabble simmers to a close

After more than two breezy months of outdoor Scrabble, the Summer League delivered its verdicts. First and foremost, it confirmed five-time National Champion David Delicata, who comfortably won the upper A Section to the tune of two bonus words per game, as the leading active Scrabble player in Malta.

The battle was tight for second and third place, where an in-form Christine Strawbridge pipped National Champion Charles Micallef (in third) and Mario Saliba to the post thanks to a better overall spread.

A similar order prevailed in the lower A Section where Moira Fenech cruised to victory ahead of the reigning Division B National Champion Josephine Mayo and Mario Camilleri.

Kevin Pirotta (shown playing a move right of picture) continued his slow but steady progress placing first in Section B ahead of two other steadily improving players, Maria Scicluna in second and Bryan Priest in third. Pirotta and Priest again showed good form to finish second and third respectively in the Summer Supplement, behind Josephine Mayo.

Despite missing out by a whisker on a top three finish in the Summer League, three time National Champion Mario Saliba was the highest mover up the National Player Rating List thanks to a hefty 102-point gain.
